Excellence Titanium
For Charmant, an eyeglass frame manufacturer, the pursuit of better materials is a mission. Materials that are safe, easy to process to increase design freedom, and above all, materials that can be used to create eyeglasses that are comfortable to wear.
The development of this "dream material" involved many failures and small successes. After eight years of research in collaboration with the Tohoku University Institute for Materials Research, the new material for eyeglass frames, "Excellence Titanium," was miraculously born. This material has also been patented.

The new materials include
New technology was needed.
A new joining technology was needed to maximize the properties of Excellence Titanium and expand the possibilities of glasses. Therefore, we focused on laser joining technology, which is used to join parts of cars and airplanes and allows for extremely strong joining.
Laser micro-welding was developed in collaboration with the Joining and Welding Research Institute of Osaka University and the Fukui Industrial Support Center over a period of five years. This technology produces stronger joints than conventional methods, and also enables pinpoint joining of less than 1 mm, making it possible to create delicate and beautiful frame designs that have never been seen before.
Quality in every one of our over 200 processes.
The manufacturing of a typical eyeglass frame requires more than 200 steps, but Line Art requires an additional 100 steps. While many manufacturers manufacture frames using a division of labor system, Charmant is one of the few manufacturers that carries out all processes in-house.
Furthermore, because we have an integrated system where planning and design are carried out in-house, we are able to improve manufacturing quality by implementing detailed ingenuity into each and every process. We pursue the ideal down to the smallest parts and minute processes.

Charmant has studied the shape of Japanese heads for over 20 years. The size and unique curve of the temples are designed based on that data, and they fit gently to the curves of the head.
